Call for Papers: Wisdom

Conference on the Cardinal Virtues

2010 Theme:
Wisdom
The 2010 conference is the culmination of a series of four conferences on the cardinal
virtues. We invite papers examining the meaning, history, and practical implications of
the idea of wisdom as a virtue.  Submissions from a variety of disciplinary
perspectives are encouraged.
 
Presentations may include the following topics:
 Cultural Understandings of Wisdom
 Historical Understandings of Wisdom
 Political Wisdom
 Wisdom in Relation to the Virtues
 Ignorance
 Self-Knowledge and Self-Deception
 Rationality and Irrationality
 
Keynote Speaker
 
David James Duncan
Author of the novels The River Why and The Brothers K and several works of nonfiction, including God
Laughs & Plays
and My Story as Told by Water.
 
Presentation proposals should be no more than one-page in length and include name, affiliation, address,
and e-mail address. Presentations will be limited to twenty minutes with ample time provided for
discussion. Proposals for panel discussions and “works in progress” are encouraged.  
Deadline for submissions is January 11, 2010.
